Win The Good Home Cookbook
My apologies: there will be no recipe this week. We spent last weekend driving half way across the country and I am still recovering (not to mention doing laundry, unpacking and re-adjusting to life back at home).
What I have for you instead is a cookbook full of recipes. It is, in fact, the only cookbook entirely tested in home kitchens across America. So while the recipes may not have been tested by me they have been tested (and the testers are listed in the back of the cookbook).
This cookbook has more than 1000 recipes in it- everything from the simple (scrambled eggs and grilled hot dogs) to the gourmet (Roasted Rack of Lamb with Garlic-Rosemary Sauce).
The Good Home Cookbook is over 450 pages of recipes, short anecdotes, cooking terms & tips. It's a great cookbook for the new cook (or new graduate) and the more experienced cook.
Want to win one? Just leave a comment telling me about the worst meal you ever made.

I think the worst meal may have been a mashed potato, mixed veggie, shepards pie type of use up the leftovers made up dish. No one ate much and we had popcorn for an after supper snack!

here is my blog entry
hahahhaahahaa, I LOVE that you want us to reveal our WORST meal! I've done too many to count.. but my most recent one was Carrot Soup, it turned out more like hot cole slaw without the mayo.. yes that nasty! Of course no one ate it *sigh*.
My worst meal ever is my latest in my blog.
Thanks for such a great contest!

Well, this one's easy - I once made this really complicated dish that, in my hands, turned into egg and ham soup!
I've had several dessert disasters.
One time we forgot to put the sugar in the homemade ice cream. It turns out that you can't add it later. It's just not the same. lol
I also managed to mess up rice crispie treats once. The were all crumbly, and wouldn't stick together.
Most of my other cooking debacles have to do with forgeting that I'm cooking something, and burning it beyond recognition.
Not too long ago I made some cookies and must have left something out. They came out like chocolate rocks. And I did the old "leave the giblets in the paper sack inside the turkey" thing that everybody does the first time they cook a turkey. I asked hubby what the worst meal I ever made was and he couldn't think of a thing. The man has very simple taste :)
I subscribe.

worst meal I ever made is my first time baby food attempt, consisting spinach, banana, rice, chicken liver, and carrots. My lesson: don't make your baby something you don't want to it yourself!

The worst meal I ever made was one of the first meals I made for my husband when we were dating. I made a cornflakes crusted sweet sauce coated broiled chicken dinner that only took about 5 minutes in the broiler. I came up with the recipe myself and the chicken was raw inside. Ahhh. When I was 8, I tried making breakfast for my uncles. They wanted scrambled eggs. We had cinnamon sugar in a small glass shaker, which is what I grabbed instead of pepper. Cinnamon Eggs, voila! I've learned to cook since then, and still get teased many, many years later.

I like to get my family eat healthy, so to me, the worst meals are ones that have high fat & sodium content, and don't have any veggies

I was making pizza and chicken soup (no idea why I thought the two were a good combo) and the chicken stock for the soup wound up getting dumped into the pizza sauce I was making. I tried to salvage both but all I could find to add was garlic powder, and it SO didn't help!

I'll never forget the worst meal I ever made. It was the first time I had ever cooked a roast and I did not notice the plastic thing stuck to the bottom, so it was included in the oven! Long story short, we had some nice mashed potatoes and rolls for dinner that night!

One evening my wife, convinced by a co-worker that it was a good idea, decided to cook a turkey loaf. Basically, it's a slab of processed turkey which is supposedly something like a meat loaf made from turkey meat. I'm quite pleased to say I no longer remember exactly what it tastes like but I can say this:
1. Both of us spit out our first bite seconds after putting it in our mouth.
2. Every future bad meal has been measured against turkey loaf (e.g. "well, at least it wasn't as bad as that turkey loaf!").

Now - the worst meal I ever forced myself to eat...
My youngest sister was 14 at the time and my DH and I were home visiting. She was given the task of preparing the Sunday meal. We sat down to fried chicken and coleslaw.
The fried chicken was battered and fried straight out of the freezer without thawing first. It was still frozen in some sections and very bloody in others and almost black on the outside. When no one was looking, DH scooped it and teh coleslaw onto my plate.
Then the coleslaw... Since DH & I were not expected, Kris added a can of tuna to stretch it. ***yum***... As soon as we left that afternoon, we hit Burger King.
